EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE men's and women's cross country will compete Friday in the NCAA Midwest Regionals in Peoria, Ill.
A total of 37 teams from the region are competing in the event.
The women's 6K race is set to begin at noon. The men's race, the first 10K of the year for SIUE, begins at 1 p.m.
"We want to stick to our original goals of progressing and improving upon how we did in this race last year," said Head Coach Eileen McAllister. "The teams set goals for regionals at the beginning of the year and we want to stay focused on those goals."
Both teams competed on the course Oct. 17 at the Bradley Classic.
"It's nice that it's in our backyard and that friends and family can attend," said McAllister. "The team knows the course and the area well, which makes one less thing they have to worry about."
Both teams are coming off exceptional Ohio Valley Conference performances. The men's team placed third and added several runners to SIUE's career record list, including a new 8K record set by Clint Kliem.
The women added several runners to their career record list and all-time freshmen list in the team's seventh-place finish.
"I'm proud of what our teams have done so far and I'm excited to see what they'll accomplish this Friday," said McAllister.
