EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE volleyball has revealed its 2019 schedule which includes the return of the Cougar Classic and 11 regular season home matches at the Vadalabene Center.
The first chance to see SIUE volleyball at home will come Aug. 23 when the Cougars hold their annual Red and Black scrimmage at 6 p.m.
The Cougars will open the regular season with three consecutive tournaments on the road beginning with the Northern Illinois Tournament Aug. 30 and 31. The tournament includes NIU, Fairleigh Dickenson and UC Riverside. The schedule sees the Cougars take part in SIU Carbondale's Saluki Bash Tournament Sept. 6 and 7 with SIU Carbondale, Alabama A&M and Southeastern Louisiana. SIUE will travel to the Tulsa Tournament Sept. 13 and 14 where it will face Tulsa, Houston Baptist and UT San Antonio.
The regular season home schedule kicks off with six consecutive matches at the Vadalabene Center, starting with the Cougar Classic Sept. 20 and 21. This season marks the seventh consecutive season SIUE has hosted a home tournament at Vadalabene Center. The Cougars will play host to Central Arkansas, Presbyterian and Purdue Fort Wayne.
"We are eager to get rolling with our 2019 schedule," SIUE Head Coach Kendall Paulus said. "Our non-conference opponents will be challenging and will prepare us well for a competitive OVC season. Our Cougar squad is eager to work and we are confident they are prepared for this season's challenges. They are a great group of talented, fun and intelligent women who will be worth watching."
SIUE then moves into Ohio Valley Conference play with matches against Austin Peay Sept. 27, Murray State Sept. 28 and Eastern Illinois Oct. 2. The Cougars also play home OVC matches with Jacksonville State Oct. 18, Tennessee Tech Oct. 19, Belmont Nov. 9, Southeast Missouri Nov. 15 and UT Martin Nov. 16.
"We kick off OVC play with exciting home competition against Austin Peay and Murray State, last season's regular season and tournament champions, respectively," Paulus added. "Fans should plan to come to support us early in the season for some thrilling matches."
The Cougars play three consecutive road OVC matches at Tennessee State Oct. 5, at UT Martin Oct. 11 and at Southeast Missouri Oct. 12. SIUE will face a five-game OVC road swing starting Oct. 25 at Eastern Kentucky. They also will travel for games at Morehead State Oct. 26, at Murray State Nov. 1, at Austin Peay Nov. 2 and at Eastern Illinois Nov. 6.
"Once you see our Cougars play, and experience the fun environment our game day crew puts on, you will want to come back for more," Paulus said.
The OVC Tournament will play out at the No. 1 seed Nov. 20-25.
