Omaha, Neb. -- The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball team started the 2005 season exactly how they wanted to, picking up two wins over Hillsdale and Regis on Thursday at the Nebraska-Omaha Tournament.
Senior Heather Bonde led the way for the Cougars with 24 kills and .426 hitting percentage in the two contests.
The Cougars notched a 30-25, 30-25, and 30-20 win over Hillsdale in the first game. Kindra Westendof led the Cougars with 12 kills, while Kim Potthast wasn't far behind with 10. Krystal Majernik had 41 assists and 10 digs for a good start to her season.
In the night cap, SIUE defeated Regis 30-23, 30-21, 27-30, and 30-20. Bonde notched a team-high 15 kills and Tricia Happe came off the bench with seven kills and a .455 hitting percentage.
Majernik recorded 29 assists, and freshman setter Mallory Clements had 19 assists for the Cougars.
Allison Buss added 24 digs from her libero spot as she totaled 39 digs on the day.
SIUE will take on Wayne State (Neb.) tomorrow at 1 p.m. and host Nebraska-Omaha at 6:30 p.m. with both of those teams holding 2-0 marks.
