Some coaches call it crunch time. Coach Todd Gober is calling it controlling one's own fate.
The SIUE volleyball team can finish as high as No. 2 in the GLVC or as low as No. 5 after conference matches this week at Indianapolis on Friday and Northern Kentucky on Saturday. With Northern Kentucky standing firm with the best conference record at 12-0, Southern Indiana (10-3), SIUE (10-3), Lewis (8-4) and Indianapolis (8-4) all are within one game of each other in the loss column in league records.
SIUE, 18-11 overall, is tied with Southern Indiana in the Green Division for the best record. The top three teams in each division of the 11-team conference and the next two best records advance to the GLVC Tournament. The seeds for the tournament on Nov 2-4 at top-seeded Northern Kentucky will be based upon conference record.
The Cougars also have an opportunity to reach the 20-win plateau. SIUE faces non-conference opponent Drury in Springfield, Mo., on Tuesday and then heads off to meet Indianapolis and Northern Kentucky.
"Twenty wins wasn't something I envisoned at the beginning of the season," Gober said.
Andrea Voss (St. Rose) continues to lead the Cougars. She has a .280 hitting percentage and leads the team in kills per game (3.37) and blocks per game (1.23).
