Distance Runners Shine at Meyo Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The SIUE track and field teams completed day two of the Meyo Invitational at the Loftus Sports Center on the campus of Notre Dame.

The SIUE distance runners had a great showing at the Invitational with multiple personal record times.

In the men's 800m, Matt O'Connor ran a season best time and his second fastest 800m time ever. His time of 1:51.15 was good for fifth overall.

Austin Woodard has now hit a PR in the men's 3k three weeks in a row, including his 11-second PR Saturday. Woodards time of 8:35.44 is number six all-time in the 3k.

In the men's mile, SIUE's Ben Scamihorn (4:16.65) and Landon Skelly (4:23.84) ran season best times.

SIUE's Jalea Paslay ran a four-second PR in the women's 800m with a time of 2:17.42, which is now number seven all-time for SIUE. Aly Goff ran a sub five-minute mile in the women's mile with a time of 4:59.35, a one second PR.

In the men's shot put, John Barnes threw a PR in the shot put (47-6). Barnes placed second Friday in the weight throw with a mark of 65-9.

Nichyria Byrd placed sixth in the women's long jump Friday with a mark of 18-5.75.

Saturday, Ethan Poston took third in the men's high jump with a leap of 6-8.75 and Brittney Gibbs placed third in the women's triple jump (39-9.75).

The Cougars will be back in action Feb. 8-9 at the Chipotle Marshall invitational in Huntington, West Virginia.
