Cougars Shine Day Two of OVC Championships

COOKEVILLE, Tn. – The SIUE track and field completed day two of the Ohio Valley ConferenceChampionships Friday behind top-3 finishes from multiple Cougars.

SIUE's Julian Harvey won his fourth straight OVC men's long jump title with a mark of 25 feet, 8.75 inches. Harvey also placed second in the high jump (6-11.75). He is qualified for the NCAA First Round in both events. Harvey ran a personal record in the 100m (10.52 seconds), which is good for number three all-time in SIUE history, qualifying him for finals on Saturday.

Lauren White won her second straight OVC heptathlon championship while setting the SIUE school record in the event. She recorded 5,383 points in the event, breaking the school record by 357 points.

Freshmen jumper Justin White placed third in the men's high jump while setting a huge PR (6-8.25) in the event. White also recorded a PR in the long jump (22-5).

SIUE's record holder in the women's long jump, Nichyria Byrd, placed third in the long jump (19-8.25). This was Byrd's first ever OVC championship medal.

In the men's 100m prelims, freshmen DeVonte Tincher ran a PR and the third fastest time in SIUE history (10.69). He is also qualified for finals Saturday alongside Harvey.

Brittney Gibbs set a PR on her final women's long jump attempt (19-6), which is good for number two all-time at SIUE behind Byrd. Gibbs will participate in the women's triple jump Saturday, where she sits at number two in the conference this season.

In the women's 800m, Jalea Paslay ran a PR with a time of 2:19.48. Haley Miller took fourth in the women's steeplechase with a time of 11:15.06, picking up five huge team points for the Cougars.

The SIUE women sit at first place in the team standings heading into the final day of competition. The Championships will resume Saturday morning at the Track at Tucker Stadium on the campus of Tennessee Tech.
