CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The SIUE track and field teams turned in a solid performance setting multiple personal records at the Illinois Open Saturday.
"This weekend's meet was a success," Head Coach Scott Block said. "We made progress today, knocked off the rust caused by winter break, and got some good work in."
The SIUE women saw Aly Goff set a PR (2:20.98) in the 800m, placing her fifth overall. In the high jump, Deborrah Blackburn placed fourth (1.60m). Nichyria Byrd leapt to a third place finish (5.51m) in the long jump.
The Cougars had Lizzie Virgl (16.86m) and Claire Nolan (15.35m) finished fourth and six respectively in the weight throw.
The SIUE women finished eighth out of eleven teams and the men finished sixth out of nine teams.
On the men's side, Nylo Clarke placed second (22.53) in the 200m. Kevin Campbell ran a PR (1:34.14) in the 600m and Matthew O'Connor turned in a second place finish in the 800m (1:55.96). Freshmen DeVonte Tincher placed fifth in the long jump (6.92m).
The SIUE track and field teams will be back in action at the EIU John Craft Invite Jan. 20.
