SIUE Track and Field Preps for OVC Championships

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE men's and women's track and field travels to Nashville, Tennessee, for the Ohio Valley Conference Championships hosted by Tennessee State.

"This is the meet where how you place matters," said SIUE Interim Head Coach Scott Block. "It is all about fighting for every point and never giving up on an event."

While competing for an OVC championship, several of the student-athletes are also seeking to qualify for the NCAA Preliminaries with this meet.

Julian Harvey, the OVC Outdoor Male Track Athlete of the Year, is currently qualified in the high jump, triple jump, and long jump. He seeks to defend his OVC titles in the long jump and triple jump from the indoor season.

Greg Block (hammer), Brittney Gibbs (triple jump), and Claire Nolan (shot put) also are currently in the top 48 in the NCAA west, qualifying them for the NCAA Preliminaries.

LaDonna Caston, Megan Lauzon, Martinus Mitchell and Nick Matthews, the OVC Male Freshman of the Year, will seek to improve their current marks to enter the top 48 and qualify.

"I expect this meet to be the best of the season," said Block. "I am excited to see everyone improve and for some of them to punch their ticket to the NCAA Prelims.

"I am excited to see where the team's performance is," continued Block.  "We have been training since August and for most of the team this is their final meet of the season. I expect everyone to have personal bests and I think we will see a few school records broken in the process."
