EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE men's and women's track and field will compete in the Ohio Valley Conference Championships Friday and Saturday in Nashville, Tennessee, at the Gentry Center.
"This is the meet that we have been preparing for since September," said SIUE Interim Head Coach Scott Block. "All of the training has been put together so that the best performances happen at this meet. After seeing how well the student-athletes competed at Grand Valley State, we are excited to see how well they compete this weekend."
After taking last weekend off, the last regular season meet at Grand Valley State saw 21 student-athletes record 29 personal bests. After the positive individual weekend, Block says he looks forward to seeing the squads compete for team points this weekend.
"I am most excited to get to see the teams compete as a team," said Block. "Track and field is usually an individual sport but when points are counted for a championship, the team really feeds off each other's performances."
OVC opponents participating in this meet are both men's and women's teams from Belmont, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Southeast Missouri, SIUE and host Tennessee State, and women's teams from Austin Peay, Jacksonville State, Murray State and Tennessee Tech.
"We have competed well against OVC teams this season, but the OVC Championships are a different animal," said Block. "I believe that the SIUE Cougars are great competitors and will outshine their opponents."
