HIGHLAND HTS., Ky. - Jennifer Trame (Highland) led all players with 21 kills as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville downed rival Missouri-St. Louis 30-23, 26-30, 33-31 and 30-13 in the quarterfinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.
The Cougars, 21-12 overall and seeded second, now face quarterfinal winner Southern Indiana in the semifinals on Friday at 4 p.m. SIUE has defeated third-seeded Southern Indiana, 21-9, in the teams' three previous meetings this season. The previous two matches have gone five games.
SIUE and UMSL split the first two games on Thursday. SIUE won the opener, and UMSL tied it up in game two. The Cougars won the crucial third game 33-31 despite 14 attack errors. SIUE dominated the fourth game by recording 16 kills on just four errors.
Trame not only led all players with 21 kills but also everyone in digs with 14. The junior outside hitter also recorded three blocks.
Kelly Schaill (Princeton) followed Trame with 13 kills while hitting a team-best .360. Andrea Voss (St. Rose) was third on the team in kills with 12 and added a team-high five blocks.
SIUE dominated the offense with 68 kills but it was the Cougars' 31 errors that held them back.
Maureen Monahan led UMSL off the bench with 13 kills. Holly Zrout added 12 kills and 11 digs.
