Cougars Fall to George Mason at Spring TennisFest

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The SIUE women's tennis team fell 4-3 to George Mason Monday at the Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

SIUE drops to 4-6 on the season while the Patriots improve to 7-3.

The Cougars took the No. 1 doubles match with Ann-Christine Link and Lara Tupper defeating Sydney Green and Brianna Gibbs, 6-3. The win marks the third-straight No. 1 doubles win for Link and Tupper, improving the duos record to 5-4 on the season.  

SIUE dropped the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches to concede the doubles point to the Patriots.

In singles play, SIUE won the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 matches. In No. 1 singles, SIUE's Alina Munteanu defeated Green, 6-3, 6-0. Muntenau improves to 6-3 in No. 1 singles play this season.

In the No. 2 singles match, Tupper picked up her second win of the day, defeating Gibbs, 6-2, 6-1. Tupper is now 5-2 in No. 2 singles for the Cougars.

SIUE's Janvi Patel picked up a win in No. 6 singles in her first singles action of the season. Patel defeated Rachel Lee, 6-3, 6-4.

The Cougars will continue play in the Spring TennisFest Tuesday where they will face South Carolina State at 12 p.m. CT.
