SIUE Tennis Opens Season at Chicago State

More Information: The season opening match for the Cougars at Chicago State will be held at the H-F Racquet & Fitness Club in Homewood, Illinois. Doubles play is set to begin at 12 p.m.

New Era: Adam Albertsen begins his first season as the head coach at SIUE, becoming the 10th coach in program history. Albertsen previously coached at Division II Montevallo (Alabama) where he achieved program best records for women (21-3) and men (16-6). He also has coaching stops at St. Norbert College (Wisconsin) and Adrian College (Michigan).

Fresh Faces: Nicole Gomez (Cartagena, Columbia), Alina Munteanu (Bacau, Romania), Janvi Patel (Ahemedabad, India) and Maria Thibault (Peachtree, Georgia) are the four newcomers for SIUE for the 2019 season.

Munteanu comes to SIUE from Montevallo where she was named to the Gulf South Conference team during the 2017-18 season. She set school records for most singles wins (26) and doubles wins (24) in a season as well as setting the school record for career singles wins (67) and doubles wins (56).

Returning Talent: Callaghan AdamsRaillane KamdemAnn-Christine Link and Lara Tupper all return for the Cougars. Adams, Link and Tupper all were on the 2016-17 Ohio Valley Conference Championship team.

Looking Ahead: The Cougars will have a two-match home stand next weekend where they will play host to Western Illinois Jan. 26 and Missouri State Jan. 27.
