Cougars Clinch Share of Regular Season Title

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's tennis defeated Eastern Kentucky 6-1 in its final regular season match, clinching a share of the Ohio Valley Conference regular season title.

The Cougars share the title with UT Martin. Both squads ended the regular season with 9-1 OVC records.

The win marked the ninth straight victory for the SIUE. The doubles pairs of Sierra Halverson and Monique Krutak and Lexi Aranda and Morgan Steffes earned the doubles point to start the match.

Aranda went on to earn her seventh straight singles victory from the No. 1 spot, finishing the season with an 8-1 record.

Madeline Hill earned a win from the No. 3 spot to finish the OVC season 8-1. Krutak won her 11th straight to finish an undefeated 6-0 in conference play. Steffes won from the No. 4 spot to finish the season 7-1. McKenzie Thomas earned her fifth singles win in OVC play from the No. 6 position.

"This was a great accomplishment for our team," said SIUE Head Coach Nick Mueller. "It was by far our most complete effort from top to bottom. We have a bigger goal in mind, and pursuit of that goal start next Saturday."

The Cougars will begin the OVC Tournament as the No. 2 seed with a first-round bye Saturday, April 23 in Nashville, Tenn.
