EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's tennis begins its Ohio Valley Conference season with two matches Friday and Saturday against UT Martin and Southeast Missouri.
The Cougars enter the weekend with an 8-3 record. Before dropping its last match against Xavier, SIUE had won seven straight matches.
"I was really happy with how the nonconference schedule lined up in terms of travel with five indoor home matches," said SIUE Head Coach Nick Mueller. "Overall, the nonconference season went very well. Our last four opponents had a combined record of 29-10, and we went 3-1 against them. The Florida trip was very successful, and we adapted to the outdoors really well."
Leading the way for the Cougars is freshman Madeline Hill, who is on an eight-match winning streak with a 9-2 overall singles record from the No. 3 position.
"This weekend is really the start of a new season," said Mueller. "Everyone starts the OVC at 0-0, and each team plays out 10 matches. I know the team is excited not only to start the OVC schedule but also to start at home is even better."
Both matches will be held at the SIUE Tennis Courts. Friday's match against UT Martin begins at 2 p.m. and Saturday's match against Southeast Missouri begins at 1 p.m.
