SIUE Women's Tennis Overcomes Western Illinois

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - SIUE women's tennis earns its second win of the weekend with a 7-0 victory over Western Illinois. 

The Cougars improve to 5-2 on the spring season, winning their fourth straight match.

"Overall, we had a good weekeed," said SIUE Head Coach Nick Mueller. "Our doubles team came through when we needed it." 

After defeating Butler 7-0 Saturday, SIUE won every point of the weekend. All but one singles match was won in straight sets.

Earning singles wins against Western Illlinois were Lexi Aranda, Mia Frogner, Madeline Hill, McKenzie Thomas, Ann-Christine Link and Sierra Halverson

Link remains undefeated at 7-0 during the spring season. Halverson also is undefeated with a 4-0 record from the No. 6 position. Aranda, Frogner and Hill all improve to 5-2 in singles play. Thomas improves to 4-3. 

The pairs of Aranda and Halverson remain a perfect 7-0 from the No. 2 doubles position with their win today. Frogner and Hill also earned a doubles win, improving to 5-1. 

"We willl sharpen up a few areas before next weekend," said Mueller. "Our team is excited for these next two challenges."

SIUE continues its homestand with matches Friday and Sunday against Dayton and Illinois State. Both matches will be played at the Edwardsville YMCA.
