EDWARSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's tennis recorded its first win at home with a 7-0 victory over Evansville Saturday.
The Cougars improve to 2-2 during the spring season with the win. Despite the loss Friday to Saint Louis, SIUE Head Coach Nick Mueller said he was pleased with the weekend's matches.
"We had a good weekend overall," said Mueller. "We learned a lot about ourselves during Friday's match. Saint Louis is a very good team, so it was a great test for us. We carried what we learned into today's match against Evansville."
SIUE swept the doubles matches for the second match in a row. The pair of Mia Frogner and Madeline Hill recorded their third straight victory for a 3-0 record in dual matches. Lexi Aranda and Sierra Halverson added their fourth victory as a pair, also undefeated in dual matches with a 4-0 record. McKenzie Thomas and Ann-Christine Link also added their first victory in a dual match.
In the singles matches, all six Cougars competing won in straight sets. Link, from the No. 5 position, is undefeated in singles matches in the spring season at 4-0.
Also tallying singles victory was Lexi Aranda from the No. 1 position, Mia Frogner at No. 2, Madeline Hill at No. 3, McKenzie Thomas at No. 4, and Sierra Halverson at No. 6.
"Our team kept their focus today," said Mueller. "We look forward to next weekend in Chicago."
The Cougars travel to Chicago State Feb. 6 for a 1 p.m. matchup.
