EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's tennis travels to face Saint Louis Friday and returns home to Edwardsville Saturday for a match against Evansville.
The Friday match against Saint Louis is slated for 3:30 p.m. at the St. Clair Tennis Club in O'Fallon, Illinois.
Saturday, the Cougars return home for the first time in 2016 for a match against Evansville at 2 p.m. at the Edwardsville YMCA.
"The proximity to Edwardsville for this weekend's matches is great for our team," said Head Coach Nick Mueller. "To have to travel 20 minutes for a 'road' match is very beneficial."
SIUE is very familiar with both of the opponents as all three teams competed at the SIUE Fall Invite last September.
"Both teams present different challenges," said Mueller. "There is some familiarity with both teams which does help in preparation, but this weekend will provide new challenges. Fall results are an indicator, but they don't mean everything. The opposing players will make adjustments, and so will ours. This will be a great opportunity for our team."
The Cougars are coming off of a 1-1 road trip. SIUE narrowly missed a win against Missouri 4-3, but overcame Bradley 6-1.
"It is always nice to be competing on your home courts," said Mueller. "The comforts of home and the familiarity of the surroundings always helps. I expect a lot of good energy this weekend."
