EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE has key women's tennis matches lined up for this weekend - just like the rest of the Ohio Valley Conference teams.
The Cougars, 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the OVC, have two matches scheduled. SIUE travels to Southeast Missouri Saturday for a noon match and returns home for an 11 a.m. contest Sunday against UT Martin.
"This definitely has shaped up to be an important weekend not only for us but also for several teams in our conference," said SIUE Head Coach Jason Coomer. "There is such parity in our league this year that I'm sure there's going to be a lot of eyes on the conference results this weekend."
Southeast Missouri is one match ahead of SIUE in the OVC standings at 3-2 and holds a 9-7 record overall. UT Martin, which faces fellow OVC foe Eastern Illinois Saturday, enters the weekend with a 2-3 record in OVC play and a 5-8 overall record.
"I feel like this team (SIUE) is playing better at the right time of the year," said Coomer. "We have continued to show improvement. We need to be disciplined in everything that we do for the remainder of the season, which we have done thus far."
"I have a lot of confidence in our lineup that we can get contributions from everyone," said Coomer. "That's a nice feeling to have as you get close to the end of the year."
