EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The SIUE women's tennis team continues to start the 2014 season with a road swing that takes the Cougars to Dayton, Ohio, for two matches.
SIUE, 0-1, takes on Dayton in a 5 p.m. match Friday and will follow that up with a 2:30 p.m. match Saturday at Wright State.
"We are going into these matches trying to simulate what a weekend will be like for the team in the Ohio Valley Conference," said SIUE Head Coach Jason Coomer. "We are facing two talented programs on back-to-back days, and we will have to compete at a high level to be successful."
Coomer said the Cougars have not set a lineup for the matches this weekend.
"The lineup is day to day and very fluid," he said. The Cougars sent Monique Krutak, Lexi Aranda, Kali Donner, Mia Frogner, Haley Ilcewicz, and Sierra Halverson as its singles lineup against Missouri.
"Each player has to be ready because at any given time they may see their name in the lineup and will need to put themselves in a position to play well," Coomer said.
Dayton enters the weekend with a 0-1 record after a 6-1 loss at home against Akron. Wright State is 1-1 after defeating IUPUI but falling to Akron.
"Both of these teams are young," Coomer noted, "but as we know ourselves you can't mistake youth for a lack of ability. You have to play hard every match."
