The SIUE women's tennis team returned to action today with a road trip to Carbondale. The Salukis played well as they defeated the Cougars 7-0. SIUE once again played shorthanded as it competed with only five players.
In doubles, the Cougars started strong as Ali Wulfers and Kelsey Laird won in No. 1 doubles over Michela Cruise and Jessica Flannery 8-4. SIUE would lose No. 2 doubles 8-3 and lose by default in No. 3 doubles, giving the doubles point to the Salukis.
In singles the Cougars failed to win a set as they were just overpowered by the Salukis. The team also lost the No. 6 singles match by default.
On Friday, the Cougars will take on future Ohio Valley Conference opponent Austin Peay. Austin Peay will enter the weekend with a 0-12 record. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m. in Clarksville, Tenn.
