EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE softball opened up the exhibition season Sunday with a pair of victories, dispatching John A. Logan 9-1 in five innings and 7-0.

Abby Marlow homered in both games, one to left field and the other to center field. The senior third baseman hit .800 for the day with two homers and six RBIs. As a team, SIUE hit .444 against the Volunteers.

"She has been taking care of the ball," said SIUE Head Coach Jessica Jones of Marlow. "She did a phenomenal job following up Zoe Schafer in the four hole."

Marlow said the coaching staff has asked the team to stay consistent and win every inning.

"They wanted us to be aggressive at the plate, which I think we did well. We needed to come out strong each inning," Marlow added.

Four pitchers saw action on day one of the fall season. Emily Ingles picked up the victory in game one with one inning of relief coming from Lexi King. Kennedy Lehn and Bianca Vozenilek combined on a four-hit shutout in game two.

"On any given day, any of one of kids can do it," said Jones.

SIUE's fall season continued next weekend with four games. The Cougars face Parkland College in a noon doubleheader Saturday and Jefferson College in a noon doubleheader Sunday.
