EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Interim SIUE softball Head Coach Jessica Jones announced that sophomore pitcher Bianca Vozenilek (Plainfield, Illinois) has transferred to SIUE and will be on the Cougars' 2019 roster.
Vozenilek comes to SIUE after one season at Rutgers, where she made 21 appearances with a 1-1 record and a 4.55 earned run average.
"We are excited to welcome Bianca to our program and into our Cougar Family," said Jones. "She comes to us with a year of experience on the mound in the Big Ten."
Used primarily as reliever at Rutgers, she posted a win in four innings of relief against Hampton and recorded career save No. 1 by tossing the final three innings against Pittsburgh. She capped off her season with two scoreless outings against LIU Brooklyn and Michigan State.
A three-time All-Conference selection at Plainfield East High School, she was named Prairie Conference Most Valuable Player and earned first team All-Area honors her junior season. She led the team to a conference championship with a 19-3 record, a 1.38 ERA and 220 strikeouts. Vozenilek helped Plainfield East to a regional championship her sophomore season after finishing with a 12-5 record and 206 strikeouts.
She played travel softball with 18u Nationals, earning 2016 Scout All-American honors. Her parents are George and Jeanine Vozenilek.
"We love that she came back to her home state and will be a great addition to our already competitive pitching staff," said Jones. "I look forward to seeing the impact Bianca has in the Ohio Valley Conference."
