EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE softball Interim Head Coach Jessica Jones announced the fall schedule for the 2018 season and is eager to get started.
"I can't wait to be back with the team and to see all the work that they put into their game this summer," said Jones.
Jones, who became the program's third-ever head coach in school history, has eight starters returning from last season's team. She also has eight new additions to the 2018-19 roster.
"We have a lot of new faces this year, and I'm looking forward to watching them grow and integrate into our family," Jones said.
All eight of SIUE's fall games will be played at Cougar Field over three weekends.
The Cougars begin with a round-robin of games Sunday, Sept. 23. SIUE faces Wabash Valley at 1 p.m. and Saint Louis at 3 p.m.
On Sept. 29, SIUE meets Shawnee at 2 p.m. and Jefferson College at 4 p.m. Parkland and Three Rivers come to Cougar Field Oct. 6 for a 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. game, respectively. The fall season concludes Oct. 7 with a doubleheader against Lakeland at 1 p.m.
SIUE has 13 returning players from last season, including its top two starting pitchers Emily Ingles and Corrina Rivas. The Cougars' top three hitters from last season – Zoe Schafer, Bailley Concatto and Alyssa Heren – also are back. Schafer and Alana Cobb-Adams were second team All-Ohio Valley Conference performers in the spring of 2018. Concatto and Cobb-Adams were OVC All-Newcomer selections.
"Each year is a new team with a new personality and identity, and it's amazing how we always keep the same foundational structure of values and traditions. I am excited to see who this team is going to be," added Jones.
