EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The fall exhibition season is almost over for the SIUE softball team with one more day of competition left.
The Cougars face Lake Land College in a noon doubleheader Saturday at Cougar Field. It will be SIUE's final opportunity to see how all of four its freshman and 14 returning players perform in game conditions.
SIUE's freshman class of Alana Cobb-Adams, Bailley Concatto, Jill Niehaus and Corrina Rivas have been major contributors during the fall season. Cobb-Adams leads the Cougars with three triples in six games. Concatto is third on the team in runs scored with four. Niehaus is batting .400 with a double and two RBIs. Rivas is 2-0 in the circle with nine strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings pitched.
As a team, SIUE is batting .338 with 51 hits in six games. Zoe Schafer leads the Cougars with a .579 batting average that includes a home run in each fall exhibition game. Reagan Curtis is second in batting with a .500 average with a team-leading three doubles.
The SIUE trio of pitchers have been led by sophomore Emily Ingles, who threw a perfect game against Parkland in her last outing. She is 2-0 this fall with a 0.00 earned run average. Both Ingles and senior Ashley Koziol have recorded 23 strikeouts in 12 inning pitched.
