EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE softball Head Coach Sandy Montgomery has announced the addition of transfer Sarah Lopesilvero.
The Simpsonville, Kentucky native, comes to SIUE after spending the 2016 season at Louisville. She appeared in 39 games for the Cardinals making 34 starts between first and third base. She added five RBIs and scored four runs.
"She can play multiple positions," Montgomery said. "And she has Division I NCAA tournament experience after playing in the NCAA Regional last year."
Lopesilvero began her college career at Lake Land Community College where she was a two-time NFCA All-American and was twice named to the Region 24 All-Tournament team. She holds the Lake Land career home run record with 36.
As a sophomore in 2015, she earned MVP honors in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference after leading Lake Land in batting average (.474), home runs (19), runs scored (81), RBIs (80) and slugging percentage (.857). Lopesilvero's 19 home runs during the season is the single-season record at Lake Land.
As a freshman, she led the team in batting average (.471), home runs (16), runs (71), RBIs (68) and slugging percentage (.885).
"She has the ability to become a difference-maker for us," Montgomery said. "She will add tremendously to our offense."
Lopesilvero maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average through both seasons at Lake Land.
"She is really a good kid with great character," Montgomery added. "She is one of those players you love to have on your team. She is a great teammate."
