EDWARDSVILLE, ILL - The No. 13-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville softball team took both games of its doubleheader against Bellarmine University Friday 2-1 and 5-1.
The two wins increased the Cougars record to 26-7 overall and 8-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while BU fell to 14-20 overall and 2-8 in the GLVC.
In the first game SIUE was scoreless before Lauren Zembruski singled bring home Emily Lenart in the fourth inning. BU tied the game in the sixth before SIUE put it away with Mallory Ruggles' sacrifice fly that brought home Kaeleigh Rousey.
Kaitline Colosimo earned the win, which brought her to 13-2 on the season while Clarie Hoorstman received the loss.
In the second game, the Cougars jumped on a big lead early scoring three runs in the first inning, including a two run single by Libby Lenart that brought home Courtney Mall and Jodie Ohlau. Emily Lenart singeld home Rousey to put SIUE up 3-0.
SIUE added additional runs in the second and third while BU added one of their own in the sixth.
Sabra McCune picked up the win putting her at 11-5 on the season while Lindsey Laas earned the save. BU's Sharon Brill took home the loss.
SIUE will play a doubleheader against Northern Kentucky Saturday at Cougar Field at Noon in Edwardsville.
