KISSIMMEE, FLA. -- The No. 8-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville softball team extended its winning streak to nine games after wins over Northern State and Stonehill on Wednesday.
With the two wins, SIUE improved its overall record to 11-2.
Lindsey Laas improved her record to 2-0 and pitched a complete game in the Cougars' six-inning, 12-2 win over Northern State. She struck out four and gave up six hits while facing 24 batters.
SIUE got a boost offensively from Mallory Ruggles who went 2-3 with a home run and four RBIs.
Jodie Ohlau also had a big game for SIUE going 3-5 at the plate with a triple and two base hits. The senior from Percy, who has a .415 batting average after 13 games, also scored three runs in the contest.
The Cougars defeated Stonehill 9-1 for their second win in five innings.
SIUE was led at the plate by Emily Lenart who was 2-2 and had five RBIs, including a bases-loaded double in the third inning. Nicole Beecher added two RBIs and also scored two runs.
Sabra McCune picked up the win with her five strikeout performance. He record improved to 5-1.
The Cougars continue play in the Rebel Spring Games Thursday at 1 p.m. against Georgian Court in Kissimmee, Fla.
