EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.— The SIUE women's soccer team fell short in overtime to Iowa State, 2-1 on Sunday at Korte Stadium.
"We continue to battle and controlled stretches of the game, influencing it the way we want to play," commented Head Women's Soccer Coach Derek Burton.
The team battled through the first half, creating many opportunities, but did not find the back of the net. The first half resulted in a scoreless draw.
The Cyclones scored first right after halftime at minute 46.
Within the first minutes of overtime play, the Cyclones scored also off a corner kick.
The Cougars will open up conference play on the road this week.
"Our schedule has helped us prepare for conference play and so have these overtime games as well," Burton added. "We have a few upperclassman returning who have experienced every type of OVC game and we are confident and happy to get the conference schedule going."
The team will travel to Clarksville, Tennessee to take on Austin Peay on Thursday at 7 p.m.
