EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.—The SIUE women's soccer team fell short to Missouri State in overtime, 1-0 in their home opener.
"I am really proud of this team and the quality chances we created today," commented SIUE Head Coach Derek Burton. "We have had some setbacks this week not having our full roster and had players playing new positions they haven't played and adapted well."
Despite outshooting the Bears 12 to nine, the Bears still found the back of the net in overtime to come away with the victory.
The goal came at minute 92, from a free kick after a foul by SIUE.
The Cougars were still able to control most of the game created quality shots.
"We need to tighten up what we already do well and just keep moving forward," Burton added. "We are creating quality chances and we just need to fix a thing a two."
The team now moves to 1-2-1 on the season.
The Cougars will be back in action at home, on Friday when they take on Chicago State with kickoff set for 4 p.m.
