Normal, Ill.-- The SIUE women's soccer team fell short 3-0 in an exhibition against Illinois State on Saturday.
"We approached this exhibition game as another opportunity to get better, like we would if we were training," SIUE Head Coach Derek Burton said. "This was an opportunity for newcomers to get a feel for the pace of the game and to help them move forward with some confidence."
"We were too reactionary in the start, and finally found a way to dictate a large portion of the game creating multiple scoring opportunities. These opportunities came from being proactive and aggressive in the flow of the game," Burton added.
Ashlin West and MacKenzie Litzsinger both had two shots on the day, including one shot on goal each. Becca Jostes, Emma Ehrsam, and Lily Schnieders each contributed a shot on goal, while Emma Dutko added one shot.
"Moving forward, we need to button down a couple of details defensively and compete at our peak intensity right away. The key is to pick up where we left off today in our next match and keep developing as a group," commented Burton.
The Cougars will travel to Saint Louis to play another exhibition match against the Billikens at 7pm on Tuesday.
