EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's soccer has released its 2018 schedule, and they will look to have another successful season under Head Coach Derek Burton. The schedule is highlighted by trips to face Kentucky, cross-town rival Saint Louis and in state rival Illinois.
The Cougars will play two exhibition games to begin the campaign. They will play host to Evansville Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. at Korte Stadium. The Cougars will travel to face IUPUI Aug. 11 at 2 p.m.
The regular season will begin Aug. 17 when SIUE travels to face Southeastern Conference foe Kentucky. The last and only time the two teams met was in the 2014 NCAA Tournament where Kentucky advanced past SIUE on penalty kicks following a 0-0 draw.
"Playing Kentucky is obviously a great way to start off the season," Burton said. "With our preseason competition and this game, we will have a great indication of where we are at early in the season."
SIUE's only home non-conference match will be against Indiana State Aug. 24.
The Cougars will close out their non-conference schedule on a four-game road trip. They will travel to face Saint Louis Aug. 26 at 1 p.m. SIUE will then head to Chicago State (Aug. 31), Illinois (Sep. 2) and Missouri State (Sep. 7).
"We are playing good and solid teams in the non-conference," added Burton. "They're all going to be challenging in their own way. We didn't show well last season against Saint Louis and Missouri State and I know our returning girls want to see a different result this season."
The Ohio Valley Conference schedule kicks off with two road games against Eastern Kentucky (Sep. 14) and Morehead State (Sep 16).
SIUE will have a three game OVC home stand against Austin Peay (Sep. 21), defending OVC champions Murray State (Sep. 23) and UT Martin (Sep. 28).
The Cougars remaining OVC home games include Eastern Illinois (Oct. 7) and Southeast Missouri (Oct. 14). Road matches in the OVC include matches against Belmont (Sep. 30), Tennessee Tech (Oct. 19) and Jacksonville State (Oct. 21).
"Our OVC schedule is tough every season," said Burton. "Getting wins on the road is going to be pivotal for postseason position."
