The 2012-2013 season marks Jennifer Jakel's seventh at the helm of the women's golf program at SIUE.

Jakel guided the Cougars to their first-ever Division I tournament title in the 2010-11 season as the Cougars bested 12 teams to capture the title at Northern Illinois' Huskie Classic. It was part of a string of three consecutive tournaments where SIUE finished in the top two. The Cougars finished second at their home event, the SIUE Intercollegiate, prior to the Huskie Classic. SIUE followed up the win at Northern Illinois with a second place finish at the Western Illinois Invitational. Jakel led SIUE to eight top 10 finishes during the season.

She also oversaw sophomore Ashton Stair's development as a collegiate player. Stair earned three top five and five top 10 finishes to earn a spot on the Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer team.

Jakel was a four-year player from 1998-2002 at Missouri State, helping the Bears to a Missouri Valley Conference title in 2001. The Bears also made their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance during the 2000-2001 season.

Jakel was named as the third head women's golf coach in program history prior to the 2006-07 school year. She also is a business associate in the Athletics department, handling numerous administrative duties. She also serves as the department's community service coordinator, chairs the annual golf outing committee, handles budget and reconciliation for various camps, and also oversees transportation for the department's 17 programs. Jakel also is a mentor to at-risk student athletes.

Jakel earned a bachelor of science in business administration from Missouri State in 2002. She received her master's in business administration at SIUE in 2006. Jakel is a Highland, Ill., native and still resides in Highland.
