• Evansville opened the season with an 81-53 road loss at Murray State. The Purple Aces bounced back for a 67-58 win at Chicago State.
• This is the regular season home opener for the Purple Aces. Evansville defeated Kentucky Wesleyan 81-80 in a preseason exhibition contest.
• Kerri Gasper, Makayla Wallace and Brooke Bishop all are averaging double figures scoring through two games with Gasper leading the team at 11.5 points per game.
• The Cougars used a robust fourth quarter to overtake Illinois State 68-61 in the season opener at the Vadalabene Center. SIUE trailed by eight points late in the third quarter before staging a dramatic comeback. SIUE outscored Illinois State 23-10 in the fourth period.
• This is the start of seventh season for SIUE Head Coach Paula Buscher. She led the Cougars to a Women's Basketball Invitational appearance last season, the second such NCAA Division I postseason tournament appearance for SIUE.
• Coach Buscher's squad features four seniors, three juniors, four sophomore and six freshmen. Eight players, including transfers Alek Akuen and Riana Everidge, will have their first season in a Cougars uniform.
• The Cougars are 29-11 all-time in home openers. SIUE now has won its last six home openers and 14 out of the last 16.
• SIUE is now 24-15 all-time in season openers after the win over Illinois State.
• This is the second of four Missouri Valley Conference opponents this season for the Cougars. SIUE plays Illinois State (W, 68-61 on Nov. 11), Evansville (Nov. 14), Loyola (Dec. 6), and Missouri State at the Roos Holiday Classic (Dec. 21).
Sydney Bauman recorded her fifth career double-double Sunday with 12 points and 12 rebounds against Illinois State.
• Bauman ranked third in the OVC last season and 43rd nationally with 63 blocked shots. That was an SIUE single-season record. She also broke the career record with 133. She had one blocked shot against Illinois State.
• This is the start of nine consecutive games from Nov. 14 to Dec. 21 with the Cougars playing away from home.
• Sophomore Allie Troeckler tied redshirt senior Nakiah Bell for the team lead in scoring vs. Illinois State with 13.
• Coach Buscher needs four more victories for 100 at SIUE.
