• This is the 20th meeting between the Billikens and the Cougars dating back to 1979. SIUE leads the series 11-8. The two teams have traded wins and losses in the five meetings since SIUE joined the Division I ranks.
• SIUE has won six of its last seven home games dating back to last season. The Cougars are coming off a 76-40 win over Air Force.
• SIUE's 36-point win over Air Force is the largest win during a season opener since the Cougars overpowered Illinois-Springfield 89-47 to open the 2008-09 season
LAST GAME (11/17/17)
A quick start sent the SIUE Cougars to a convincing 76-40 victory over Air Force in their home opener at the Vadalabene Center. The Cougars scored the game's first 15 points and never looked back in improving to 1-1. Air Force, which didn't score for nearly the first six minutes of the game, made only 18 of 69 shots overall and fell to 0-3.
SCOUTING SAINT LOUIS
Senior Jackie Kemph leads the Billikens with a 16.3 scoring average. Maddison Gits is averaging a double-double after four games with 10.3 points and 11.5 rebounds per contest. SLU has split its first four game with wins over Indiana State and Ole Miss along with losses to Loyola Marymount and DePaul.
FIRST TIME SCORERS
Several SIUE newcomers scored their first points as collegians against Air Force. Christen King led all newcomers with 10 points. Jordi Harre scored four, including a three-pointer. Allie Troeckler scored four points. Zaria Whitlock had three points, all on free throws.
2018 SIGNING CLASS
Coach Buscher announced a class of five who will be joining SIUE next season. The class includes Madison Hackstadt (Okawville, Illinois), Mikala Hall (Danville, Illinois), Mikia Keith (Indianapolis, Ind.),
Kai Koehler (Dunlap, Illinois) and Kelsie Williams (Florissant, Missouri).
Sydney Bauman posted her fourth career double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds against Air Force. It was the second straight game that Bauman has recorded a career high in rebounds after starting the season with 13 against Nebraska.
Thanks to an 0-for-16 performance from three-point range by Air Force, SIUE currently leads all of NCAA Division I women's basketball in three-point field goal percentage defense (12.1 percent).
Donshel Beck was selected as a member of the preseason All-OVC. She averaged 14.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last season.
OVC TEAM PICK
SIUE was selected to finish second in the OVC behind defending conference champion Belmont.
The SIUE-UT Martin game scheduled for Feb. 15 in Martin, Tennessee, will be broadcast on ESPNU.
SIUE has the first of two in-state road contests Monday when it travels to SIU Carbondale for a 6 p.m. game. The Cougars then play at Illinois State Nov. 30.
