EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The return of Monday Family Fun Nights, a first-ever appearance by the ZOOperstars!, numerous giveaway nights, Eddie the Cougar's Birthday Party, and the annual Pink Zone celebration highlight the SIUE Cougar basketball promotions schedule released today.
All Monday women's basketball games during the season are Family Fun Nights presented by the Cup. For $20 families receive four tickets, four drinks, four hotdogs and coupon to the Cup. Family Fun Night also includes a Family Fun Zone with inflatable attractions for children.
Men's basketball opens the home season Wednesday, Nov. 13, when the Cougars play host to Saint Louis. Fans can help the Cougars "Black out the Billikens." All ticketed fans in the lower bowl will receive a free black Cougar t-shirt courtesy of Gateway Regional Medical Center. Also that night, fans of all ages will be treated to a halftime performance by the ZOOperstars! The ZOOperstars!, a world-famous show featuring a crazy combination of animalistic superstars, performs more than 200 shows a year at various baseball, basketball, and hockey games, and will make their SIUE debut.
"We've always tried to bring in a national halftime act once or twice a year," Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Sales Mason Glick said. "I saw the ZOOperstars perform this summer and thought it would be a great act for Cougar fans."
Eddie the Cougar will celebrate his birthday with several of the St. Louis area's favorite sports mascots Jan. 18 when the men's and women's teams play host to Murray State in an afternoon doubleheader.
The Red Storm, SIUE's official student support group, has giveaways scheduled for several games. Giveaways include t-shirts, a USB wristband, beanie caps, and other SIUE Cougar items.
Saturday, Feb. 8, UT Martin is in town for a men's and women's basketball doubleheader; that day will be SIUE's annual Pink Zone celebration, to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. Last season's Pink Zone event raised more than $8,600 for the St. Louis affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
"From top to bottom our basketball promotional schedule is the best it has ever been," Glick added. "Our external staff in the Athletics Department has worked hard all summer planning promotions and events for our fans."
New events will be updated throughout the season. Fans are encouraged to check the schedule online during the year for updates.
