February 19, 2007 Courtesy of the Great Lakes Valley Conference INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Shelton Named GLVC Player of the Week Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Amber Shelton (Edwardsville, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week. The junior forward averaged 24 points a game in wins over Quincy and Southern Indiana. In SIU Edwardsville's 59-53 win over visiting Quincy on Feb. 13, Shelton posted 11 points and seven rebounds. She was 5-for-14 (.357) from the field and contributed two assists in the victory. She returned in the Cougars' 81-75 double-overtime win at Southern Indiana on Feb. 15 to net a career-high 37 points. Shelton was 13-for-24 (.541) from the field and canned the go-ahead bucket in the second overtime to lift SIUE to victory. She finished with her first double-double of the season by adding 10 rebounds. She also posted two steals and an assist in the win. For the week, Shelton averaged 24 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. She is second in the GLVC this season in scoring at 20.1 points per game and ranked third in the GLVC in field goal percentage at 52.7 percent. SIU Edwardsville (19-6) is tied with Drury for the GLVC West Division lead at 12-5. The Cougars have won three straight games and six of their last seven. Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury's Lauren Gregory, Lewis' Darcee Schmidt, Quincy's Jessica Keller, Rockhurst's Julie Cook and UIndy's Karla Mast. -siue cougars- |
