Returning Runners: The Cougars return 10 runners (four women, six men) for the 2018 season.

For the Men: The lone senior for the cross country team is Ben Scamihorn, who returns after sitting out last season. Landon Skelly looks to lead the Cougars after having a successful 2017 season. Skelly ran the third fastest 10K time in SIUE school history last season at the NCAA Midwest Regional. He also won Ohio Valley Conference Runner of the Week for his fourth-place finish at the Bradley Invitational.

For the Women: Junior Aly Goff returns for the women's team after running a personal record in the 6K (22:35) at the 2017 NCAA Midwest Regional. Juniors Keri Burmester and Jalea Paslay will look to have an impact this season for the Cougars.

Fresh Faces: The SIUE women have three incoming freshmen who will help push the pack this season in Emily Ellis (Minooka, Illinois), Jaylyn Scales (Homewood, Illinois) and Gabrielle Wood (Springfield, Illinois). Joseph Stone (Newton, Illinois) redshirted last season for the SIUE men and will be competing for the first time collegiately.

The Field: The Saluki Early Bird will feature SIU Carbondale and three OVC foes Austin Peay, Murray State and SEMO. This is the first time in six seasons that the Salukis will host a home cross country meet.

Coaches Corner: We are hungry to get out there and compete again," SIUE Assistant Coach Kayla Brown said. "There are always pre-race nerves, but everyone is excited to get back to racing. We have great energy and positive vibes at practice and in training. We are ready to carry that over to the starting line."
