EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE wrestling was a hot topic at the recent Illinois Wrestling Coaches Officials Association with a number of past and future links to the Cougars earning honors.
"The IWCOA does a great job of building and showcasing wrestling in Illinois," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. "It is an honor to have so many Cougars being represented and getting awards. It is great to see the past, the present and the future all being recognized. We hope to continue this tradition in the future."
- Incoming freshman Max Kristoff was awarded the Ken Gerdes II Leadership Scholarship, the highest honor bestowed to a student-athlete.
- Former Cougars Jon Wagner and Tom Blaha were inducted into the Hall of Fame.
- Former Cougar and current SIUE wrestling public address announcer Mike O'Dea was named the 2019 Board Member of the Year
- Colleen McGlynn, the mother of Max Kristoff, shared the Person of the Year award, becoming only the second woman to receive the honor.
