EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE will send 18 wrestlers to Saturday's Lindenwood Open, its first tournament of the season with a regular lineup.
There will be 44 teams and two divisions (freshman/sophomore and open) for the tournament in St. Charles, Missouri. The list of NCAA Division I schools joining SIUE includes Arkansas-Little Rock, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Missouri, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Purdue and Wisconsin.
"We want to put some wins on the board," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. "This will be a tough tournament. We're looking to win some matches and come back with some hardware."
Spates said he plans to send out his regular lineup with a handful of additions. Freshman Justin Ruffin is looking to extend his great start to the season after going 2-0 in dual matches against Indiana and Iowa State last week.
"Up and down the lineup, we have a lot of guys we're excited to see," said Spates. "Hopefully, we'll get to see four or five matches from each wrestler and see where we're at."
The opening whistle is set for 9 a.m.
