EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville wrestling Head Coach David Ray has signed an outstanding recruit in Cole Rogers (Warrensburg, Mo.).
Rogers was a Class 3 state champion at heavyweight for Warrensburg High School this past winter. He finished his senior season with a 42-2 record. He was a two-time state qualifier and a three-time letter winner.
"One of the things that impressed me the most about Cole is that he is always active on the mat. That's not something you always see from a heavyweight," said Ray.
Rogers, who stands at 6 foot, 3 inches and nearly 230 pounds, recently won the Missouri Freestyle and Greco Championships in late May. The tournament featured the top prep wrestlers from all four classes in Missouri.
Ray said he sees Rogers with the potential to become a Division I All-American. "He has grown physically over the past few seasons from a 189-pounder to a heavyweight. He's quick, mobile, and can be the kind of wrestler who wears down opponents."
