Joey Pacione joined the SIUE track and field staff in September 2015. 

Pacione serves as the sprints, hurdles and jumps coach.

In year two under Pacione, the sprinters and jumpers continued to improve, accumulating 3 more school records and 17 SIUE All-Time Top 5 performances. Athletes earned a combined 22 All-Conference honors including OVC Championships won by Julian Harvey in the indoor Long Jump, Triple Jump, and High Jump, and Lauren White in the women's Heptathlon. 
During the indoor season, Julian Harvey had an outstanding year. He finished the season earning his first 1st-Team All-American honor by finishing 5th in the Long Jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships. He also set school and OVC meet records in the long jump and high jump with marks of 8.17m/26'9.75" and 2.21m/7'3" respectively. Both marks qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Championships. He became the first athlete in OVC history to win the long jump, high jump, and triple jump at one conference championship. His long jump finished as the #1 best long jump in the USA and NCAA during the 2017 indoor season as well as the #2 jump in the world. Harvey also qualified for the USATF Outdoor Championships for the 2nd year in a row.

In his first year, SIUE jumpers broke six school recorded and recorded 16 All-Time Top 5 performances. SIUE jumpers accounted for 14 All-Conference accolades and three individual conference title.

Julian Harvey qualified for the NCAA National Championships both indoors and outdoors while earning second team All-American honors each time. Harvey also competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials in the long jump. Brittney Gibbs also competed at the Canadian Olympic Trials in the triple jump.

A native of Itasca, Illinois, he was a four-time conference champion in the triple jump at Illinois Wesleyan University. He also was a two-time All-Midwest Region performer. 

Prior to joining SIUE, Pacione served as the sprints coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead for one year. At Moorhead, he coached three conference champions and a national-qualifying 1,600-meter relay team.

Pacione has USTFCCCA TFTC certification and USAW Level 1 Sports performance certification. He also is USATF Level 1 certified, and is certified as a Jumps Specialist by the USTFCCCA.

Pacione holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Illinois Wesleyan.
