Track & Field Wraps Up Weekend of Split Competition

Pepsi Florida Relays
Gainesville, Florida

The final day of the Relays saw SIUE's Ethan Poston and Brittney Gibbs compete. Poston finished tied for eighth in the men's high jump with a leap of 6-07.00. Gibbs recorded a mark of 39-09.25 in the women's triple jump.

During Friday's action, the Cougars set two school records at the Relays.

SIUE's Matt O'Connor broke his own 800m school record. O'Connor's time of 1:50.54 broke his old school record of 1:51.19, which he set at the 2016 OVC Championships. His time of 1:50.54 is best in the OVC and 31st fastest in the NCAA this season.

Ben Scamihorn set the Cougars second school record of the day in the men's 3000m steeplechase. Scamihorn's time of 9:06.70 broke Jon Burnett's time of 9:07.04, which was set in 1988.

John Barnes placed 21st in the men's hammer throw for the Cougars with a mark of 156-08.

WashU Invite (Friday)
St. Louis, Missouri

The Cougars brought two athletes to compete in the WashU Invite Distance Carnival Friday. SIUE's Austin Woodard placed 19th in the men's 10k with a time of 31:32.40. In the women's 10k, SIUE's Keri Burmester finished 41st with a time of 42:36.37..

John Creer Invite
St. Charles, Missouri

Most of the SIUE track and field team competed in the John Creer Invite Saturday. Results will be updated when provided.

The Cougars will participate in the Joe Walker Invite Apr 12-13 in Oxford, Mississippi.
