EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE track and field continues the 2017 indoor season Friday at the Missouri Invitational.

The single-day meet is set for Hearnes Fieldhouse in Columbia, Missouri. SIUE Head Coach Scott Block said he expects six to seven teams to compete, including Missouri, Missouri State, Southeast Missouri and Western Illinois.

"The first two meets were duals so the competition level and the way you compete is much different than a meet like this," said Block. "You have a lot more downtime between races and attempts. I'm looking for the team to adapt to the different format with a longer day and a bigger competition field."

Block said he expects several SIUE competitors to have successful events.

Nichyria Byrd jumped a season-best 19 feet, 0.5 inches last season at this event.

"She really impressed right off the bat last season at this meet," said Block. "We're looking for her to do something similar this season."

Lizzie Virgl has had personal records in each of the last two meets in the weight throw.

"As a junior, that's very difficult to do," said Block. "She's had an incredible week of practice so I'm looking for some big things from her."

Julian Harvey, fresh off his first Field Athlete of the Week award from the Ohio Valley Conference, will be competing in the triple jump.

"It's one of his better events, and we expect him to continue to improve," Block said.

Keith Meyer is expected to compete in a middle distance race after missing the school record in the 3,000 last week at the Badger Icebreaker by less than a second.

"He's worked hard through the summer and cross country season, and it is starting to shine through," said Block.
