EUGENE, Ore. - SIUE men's track and field junior Julian Harvey capped his outdoor season by becoming a second team All-American at the NCAA Championships in the long jump.
Harvey leaped to a mark of 24 feet, 6.25 inches to claim 11th place in the meet.
The winning mark was 26-9 by Jarrion Lawson of Arkansas.
"Julian's season has been fun to witness," said SIUE Interim Head Coach Scott Block. "He has matured and changed his mindset and his performances have reflected that change."
Harvey ends his junior outdoor campaign after qualifying for three events (long jump, triple jump, high jump) in the NCAA West Preliminaries and claiming the Ohio Valley Conference crown in the long jump. Harvey's mark of 25-11.5 at the Arkansas Spring Invitational was the ninth-best mark in NCAA Division I this season.
The junior also broke SIUE records in the triple jump (51-5.75) and the high jump (7-1.5) during the outdoor season.
Harvey's All-American performance is the second of the year for the junior. He finished 13th at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the long jump to earn a place on the second team All-Amercan squad.
