BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – SIUE men's track juniors Keith Meyer and Julian Harvey earned the Ohio Valley Conference Male Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their performances at the Gladstein Invitational Saturday.
The honor is the first weekly award for Meyer, who ran his personal best in the 5K at 14 minutes, 40.90 seconds and placed fourth. His time leads the OVC this season.
"Keith is a great competitor and runs with heart," said Interim Head Coach Scott Block. "He has continued to improve week in and week out, and we look forward to seeing what he accomplishes this season."
Harvey won the OVC weekly award for the second straight week. This past weekend, he took sole possession of the SIUE high jump record, clearing 7 feet, 0.25 inches. Last season, he jumped to 6-11.75, which tied the record previously set by Kevin Dooley in 1976. This mark leads the OVC.
Harvey also set a personal best in the triple jump at 49-10, placing second. This mark is the second-best in the OVC.
"Julian continues to impress every time he steps on the runway," said Block. "He is a student of the sport and is doing what is required to be the best he can be."
SIUE men's and women's track and field continues the indoor season with the SIUE – SEMO Dual Meet Jan. 29 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
