EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE track and field Interim Head Coach Scott Block announced the indoor and outdoor schedules for the 2015-16 season, highlighted by two home outdoor meets.
"This year's schedule is designed to provide the best opportunities to produce fast times, good throws, and big jumps," said Block. "We will see many of our Ohio Valley Conference competitors along the way, and that will give us a good indicator of what to expect at the OVC Championships."
The indoor season kicks off at the Eastern Illinois Early Bird meet Dec. 11. The teams will then head to the Missouri Invite (Jan. 15) and the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana (Jan. 22-23).
Both squads will travel to Southeast Missouri (Jan.29) for the annual SIUE vs. SEMO dual meet.
"The Dual meet with SEMO is always one of our favorite meets," said Block. "The energy of a dual meet especially with a conference rival is awesome. It makes for a fan-friendly and highly-competitive environment."
The SIU Invitational (Feb. 5-6) and the Grand Valley State Big Meet (Feb. 12-13) lead the Cougars into the indoor OVC Championships in Nashville, Tennessee (Feb. 26-27).
The indoor NCAA Championships are Mar. 11-12 in Birmingham, Alabama.
The outdoor season begins Mar. 25-26 with the Arkansas Invitational, a new addition to the schedule, along with distance runners competing at the WashU Invite Mar. 25.
"We always like to change some meets every year," said Block. "This year I am excited to bring the team to compete at the University of Arkansas to open up the outdoor season. It is a place at which we as a team have not competed, and we will see different competitors. I think it will be a great way to open up the outdoor season."
The Cougars also will host a pair of home meets at Korte Stadium. The SIUE Gateway Classic will be held Apr. 16 and the SIUE Twilight Invite will be held Apr. 30.
"Home competitions give us an opportunity to showcase what we do in front of our friends, family, and university," said Block. "The Gateway Classic will be a high-caliber competition with some of the best teams in the Midwest competing. The Twilight Invite is a smaller meet designed to tune-up the team for the OVC Championship."
The rest of the outdoor schedule includes the Joey Haines Invitational hosted by Southeast Missouri (Apr. 1-2), the Hilltopper Relays hosted by Western Kentucky (Apr. 8-9), the Kansas Relays (Apr. 16) and the Tom Botts Invitational hosted by Missouri (Apr. 22-23).
The outdoor OVC Championships are set for May 13-14 at Tennessee State.
The NCAA West Preliminaries will be held May 26-28 at Kansas. The NCAA Championship is June 6-11 in Oregon.
