THE COUGARS: SIUE men's soccer is currently on an eight-game unbeaten streak. The Cougars had won five in a row before drawing in each of the last two contests.
STRONG START: SIUE looks to continue the best start to a season in the Division I era. The previous best start came in 2012. SIUE finished 13-7 that season.
TOP SPOT: The Cougars trail West Virginia in the Mid-American Conference standings, but would claim at least a share of first place with a win over the Mountaineers.
PREVIOUSLY: SIUE outshot Evansville 14-13 Tuesday, but settled for a scoreless draw.  The shutout was the sixth of the year for the Cougar defense and goalkeeper Noah Heim
RANK AND FILE: The Cougars currently are No. 20 in the  College Soccer News Top 30. SIUE is just out of the top 25 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and poll. The Cougars have an RPI of 30, which is the best in the MAC.
SCORING LEADERS: McLean leads the Cougars, the MAC and is 22nd nationally in scoring with 22 points, coming on nine goals and four assists. His nine goals also are most in the MAC and the most at SIUE since Christian Volesky scored nine during the 2012 season. McLean was chosen as MAC Player of the Week Oct. 9, when he also was chosen to College Soccer News' Team of the Week. Jorge Gonzalez is second on the team in scoring at 15 points coming on seven goals and an assist. He is third in the MAC in scoring and goals.
SERIES STUFF: The Mountaineers won the only previous meeting between these two teams, defeating SIUE 2-1 in overtime last season at Korte Stadium.
