THE COUGARS: SIUE men's soccer is currently on a five-game winning streak and a six-game unbeaten streak. This is the Cougars' second winning streak of at least four games this year.
STRONG START: SIUE looks to continue the best start to a season in the Division I era. The previous best start came in 2012 when the Cougars were 7-3 through the first 10 games of the season.
STRONG START PART II: The Cougars are 1-1 in Mid-American Conference play after winning their MAC opener last week 3-2 in double overtime at home over Northern Illinois and drawing with Western Michigan Saturday. Last season, the Cougars opened the MAC season with a win but dropped their second game.
PREVIOUSLY: Keegan McHugh scored the lone goal for the Cougars in a 1-1 double overtime draw Saturday vs. Western Michigan.
SCORING LEADERS: McLean leads the Cougars, the MAC and is 17th nationally in scoring with 22 points, coming on nine goals and four assists. His nine goals also are most in the MAC and the most at SIUE since Christian Volesky scored nine during the 2012 season. Jorge Gonzalez is second on the team in scoring at 15 points coming on seven goals and an assist. He is third in the MAC in scoring and goals.
SERIES STUFF: SIUE owns a 10-6-3 advantage in the all-time series. The Cougars and Aces formerly were conference mates in the Missouri Valley Conference. The last time the two teams met, SIUE defeated Evansville 2-1 in the semifinals of the 2016 MVC Tournament, which was won by the Cougars.
