NATIONAL POLLS: SIUE moved into the top 25 of three different men's soccer polls this week. The Cougars are No. 22 in the NSCAA national poll as well as the College Soccer News poll. Soccer America placed SIUE among the top 25 at No. 25. SIUE is ranked 38th in the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll.
SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Brian Groark was named the Missouri Valley Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The psychology major scored the game-winning goal in SIUE's 1-0 victory over UMKC.
500 VICTORIES: The SIUE men's soccer program won its 500th overall contest in the 1-0 triumph over UMKC.
SUCCESSFUL OPENING WEEKEND: SIUE defeated DePaul 3-0 after a 2 hour, 40-minute delay because of severe thunderstorms at Korte Stadium Friday night. The Cougars backed that up with a 1-0 shutout over UMKC Sunday.
TRIPLE THREAT: The Cougars have more than tripled up their first six regular season opponents having outscored them 6-2 in first halves and 4-1 in second halves.
THE SERIES VS. INDIANA: SIUE is 3-12 overall in the series with the Hoosiers. The last meeting between the two teams was the 1989 season. SIUE's last win over Indiana was a four-overtime contest in the 1977 NCAA Division I Championships.
HOME SWEET HOME: After SIUE's road swing continues at Green Bay Tuesday, the Cougars are at home for the next three contests against Dayton, UIC, and Nebraska-Omaha. SIUE is 2-0 at Korte Stadium this season.
STATISTICAL RANKINGS: SIUE is tied for 13th in the nation in assists with 11. Nine different players have been credited with an assist so far this season. Jared Tejada and Ryan Bauer lead the team with two each. The Cougars are 26th in the nation in goals scored with 10. The defense also holds its own accolades with a No. 13 national rankings in shutouts with four.
FOUR STRAIGHT YEARS: Peter Kelly recorded a game-winning goal in SIUE's 1-0 win over Rutgers in the Ameritas Classic. Kelly now has six career game-winning goals and has had at least one in each of his four seasons as a Cougar.
OFF TO A GREAT START: In week one of the season, Jared Tejada was named the Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week and teammate Matt Polster, a sophomore center back, was named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week.
