MADISON, Ill. – Kyle Slattery leads the way and SIUE golf has a three-shot lead following the first two rounds of the 2018 Derek Dolenc Invitational at Gateway National Golf Links.
Slattery shot rounds of 71-65, is six-under par and holds a three-shot lead over UT Martin's Tate Chumley (-3).
SIUE has a combined 136 (-2) and is three strokes ahead of Omaha. Bradlye (+2) and UT Martin (+5) round out the top 4.
For the Cougars, Grant Gavin is one-over par at 143 and is tied for 14th. Albert Nilsson is one shot back at two-over and is tied for 18th. Brooks Jungbluth (145) is tied for 25th. Conor Dore (146) is tied for 29th.
"I thought we played solid all day," SIUE Head Coach Derrick Brown said. "The morning round was very consistent from everyone. The afternoon was another exceptional round from Kyle (with a 65) to help vault us into the 36-hole lead."
The final 18-hole round will be played Tuesday, beginning with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m.
"I saw a lot of good things out of the guys today and a couple of spots where we can improve tomorrow," Brown added. "We look forward to competing for another title at our home event."
